Abstract

With a view to the future, the Bachelor´s degree programme in Secondary Vocational
Teacher Education, Department of Nutrition, has offered the elective subject
Nutritional Geragogy. It enables students to develop and apply subject-specific
didactic methods for teaching on the topic of nutrition in old age at human-vocational
schools. As part of the first research project in this subject, students developed and
evaluated the “Graz Check Eating Biography” guide and two “Graz Recipe Checks”.
The evaluation result shows that 67 percent of the students would use the “Graz
Check Eating Biography” and 85 percent would use the “Graz Recipe Checks” as
subject didactic material in class. Students can put competences acquired with these
into practice when creating meal plans and in food service in a personalised way for
older adults. This knowledge gives them a competence-oriented competitive
advantage for professional work in the context of catering for older persons in social
institutions.
